Gears of War: Exile canned by Bleszinski

You might recall the stir that hit the interwebs last year when it was noticed that Gears of War: Exile had been trade marked.

It was supposedly going to be announced at a trade event but that got axed.  It was rumoured to be a Kinect based game.

Gears of War producer lead guy dude Cliff Blezsinksi told Gamepot "Let's just bury the hatchet now, Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been cancelled."

So there you have it, we'll just have to see if any thing Gears related is announced....

Gears of War 4 basically confirmed by Cliff Bleszinski

Cliffy B has this to say when pressed about life post Gears of War 3:

'Gears 1 and 2 sold about 6 million copies, so if [Gears of War 3] comes out and, God willing, sells 8 or 10 million it would be completely dumb to not do another one, right?'

Which is good news for Gears fan boys and girls.

Cliff further noted:

'It’s just business 101. So, I mean, the key is figuring out what’s appropriate. What makes sense for this connected world that we’re moving into?' 

So those with memories longer than that of the MTV generation may remember the rumours and (trade marks) that went around for Gears of War: Exile being the game that was gonna be announced and then pulled? You can bet your bottom dollar that that is what is the likely next Gears game will be, and Cliff's basically confirming it. 

Of course, I could be wrong.....

Gears 3 to have Easter Eggs

At the recent Game Developers Conference two things happened. Bungie's David Aldridge made a bad joke about their new  game being 'massive' and the news spread like wildfire that Bungie's game was an MMO. The other slightly interesting thing was Cliff Bleszinski had this too say about the new Gears game:

"The second after Bulletstorm came out, the front page of Kotaku and all these [gaming] websites was the Red Ring Of Death secret. That's your hidden X-factor to extend the launch of the game. So now I'm running into our office like, 'Dude. Easter Eggs, Easter Eggs. Pack 'em in, pack 'em deep."

OK it's hardly big news, but it's a slow news day at Gears of Halo.

So let the speculation begin, what kinds of things will Cliffy B and the rest of the Gears game developers throw in to the mix. While they be eggs that refer to the game itself or will they be crazy shit like what Bungie do such as throwing a secret disco into a level of Reach?

Kotaku says “Sources claiming to be familiar with the project” are saying that an early demo of the game used game assets and events from Gears of War 2. Oh, and surprise…it was set on-rails.

“While we don't yet know the extent to which Kinect controls might be implemented, a source indicates that movement in this Gears of War spin-off would be controlled not by the player, but set on-rails.”

I’m taking on rails to mean a train setting? 

The above picture is apparently from a beta version of the game but who know's if this is real or not.

"A source also said that while the implemented Kinect functionality may not be fully worked out yet, the game will likely be an on-rails shooter. This means that players would have little to no control over the movement of their character, and would presumably use their hands to aim and shoot at enemies."

Presumably all this com chatter is tied in with Gears of War: Exile

The interwebs are begging to report that Epic has a new ace up their sleeve in the Battle for Sierra called Gear of War: Exile.

Just as Bungie recently got found out re their new IP, Epic Games has filed a trademark application for an IP called Gears of War: Exile and additionally has registered the logo pictured above.

Is this the game that Cliff Bleszinksi was going to announce at the Spike TV’s VGA Award Show some months back? (And does this all remind you of the whole Halo: Recon / Halo: ODST fiasco that Bunge and Microsoft unleashed?) 

Is this the oft discussed but never publically announced Gears of War game that will use the new Xbox Kinect system?

Given that Gears of War 3 is in the pipeline for a Fall release, it’s unlikely that Gears of War: Exile will get a 2011 release – particularly so confirmed for 2011 is Gears of War 3, which will include Gears 1 and 2 and the “Road to Ruin” campaign that was cut from the Xbox version of Gears 2, and a selection of 38 multiplayer maps (19 which you can download right now from Xbox Live).

So what do you think? What is Gears of War: Exile going to be about? Is it going to be Gears of War 4 or some other spin off like Halo: ODST was? After all, as Epic have shown with all the novels and comics, there are a lot of Gears stories to be told….
