Halo 4 Armor Mod Update

Halo 4 Armor Mod Update - update from Halo Waypoint

Next Monday, we will release two additional armor mods free of charge for you to enjoy, and we’ll be using a Title Update to deliver them. These will be released one day before the Champions Bundle launches on Tuesday, and you’ll immediately be able to incorporate these new Support Upgrades into your Loadouts and dominate.
  • Recharge: New Support Upgrade available to all players
  • Recharge decreases the time it takes for your shields to recharge.
  • Survivor: New Support Upgrade available to all players
  • Survivor ejects you out of a vehicle if it’s about to explode.
We hope you enjoy using these complimentary Support Upgrades in your Loadouts starting next Monday. As a reminder, the Champions Bundle will include a sneak peek of the Resistor Tactical Package, which allows players to retain full mobility despite taking fire for a few short moments. This armor mod will eventually be made available to all players in Halo 4 Matchmaking free of charge.

Before we dive into how the Champions Bundle will be showcased in Halo 4 Matchmaking, we’ve got some other changes that are coming in Monday’s update. For starters, the Global Championship online qualifier will be coming to a close, and the Rumble Pit playlist will return as the premiere FFA offering. Based on community feedback, we’ve also made some changes. Rumble Pit will have a total of 15 new voting options including new Slayer game types, new objective game types (King of the Hill and Oddball) and Regicide, which is being consolidated and will now exclusively be available in the Rumble Pit playlist.

The following Slayer and objective game types from the Halo 4 Global Championship playlist will be added to the Rumble Pit offerings:
  • Haven Oddball
  • Skyline Rumble BRs
  • Simplex Rumble BRs
  • Abandon King of the Hill
  • Landfall King of the Hill
While the above game types will add variety to the playlist, a Slayer game type will always be present in the first voting slot. As always, we want to know your thoughts on these game types and what else you’d like to see in Rumble Pit. Head over to the Rumble Pit Feedback Thread next week to join the conversation.

In Spartan Ops Matchmaking, we’ll be offering a selection of Forerunner-themed missions:
  1. Episode 1, Chapter 3: The Challenge
  2. Episode 1, Chapter 4: Sacred
  3. Episode 2, Chapter 5: Gagarin
  4. Episode 5, Chapter 1: Spartan Miller
  5. Episode 5, Chapter 2: Nothing Can Go Wrong

Further proof Jun survived Halo: Reach

jun model halo
We all know Jun got off Reach during the events of Halo: Reach as he was on the same ship as Halsey who turned up in Halo 4. However doubts have lingered till now as to what happened and did he really survive? A Redditor thinks he's found an answer.

Here's the write up on Xbox Live about Commander Palmer if you wish to buy her armour for your XBL avatar. Gosh knows why you would buy it when it costs 320 MS points but that's not the point. The reference to Jun is:

"Once an ODST, Sarah Palmer was hand-picked by former Spartan-III Jun A-266 to be one of the first candidates in the new Spartan IV program. Quickly proving herself during the defense of the UNSC Infinity from a hostile takeover by Insurrectionists, Palmer was soon called upon to lead a Spartan strike team during the historic Battle of Draetheus-V. Now the senior Spartan aboard Infinity, Commander Palmer went on to be instrumental in the recovery of the Master Chief and the defeat of Jul ‘Mdama at Requiem."

Yes, yes, I hear you, the question is when did Jun hand-pick Palmer... Maybe that will be answered in Halo: Initiation.

Also did they just ruin the ending of season 2 of Spartan Ops? Cos I'm pretty sure thye did as the season left on a cliff hanger with Jul alive having snagelled one half of a very important key?

Have you tried the Chief's cololgne, Mjolnir?

Got a big date with an A.I.? Have a desire to impress your Commander? Just want to smell fresh after along day smashing Promethean Knight's heads together? Then we literally have a solution for you - Mjolnir by the Chief.

While the Elite by Sanghelli sold well, it alienated most of the UNSC fleet. UNSC Command expects this fresh and floral bouquet will freshen the halls of mess tents and space galleys like no cologne has before.

I hope they get to meet an E.T. - Speilberg takes a turn at Halo

In news sure to please Halo fans Steven Spielberg has signed on to produce a live-action TV series of the best-selling video game Halo. This no doubt follows due to the excellent success of the shorts ‘Forward Unto Dawn’ that were used to promote Halo 4.

Microsoft revealed its plans for a Halo series at the global launch of the new Xbox One console, which is set to replace the XBox 360 in spring. The series produced by Spielberg and 343 Studios will be exclusively available for XBox Live which is great as it means fans won’t need to buy the latest Halo game to enjoy the series.

Spielberg said:

"The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking”.

Let’s hope Speilberg can pull of something amazing as Peter Jackson intended.

Bungie reveals three classes of The Fallen. Wanna have a look?

Bungie have released some sweet details about some of the enemies the heroes of Destiny must defeat if they  can truly consider themselves heros: three classes of the Fallen.

dreg-fallen-destiny
Dreg

THE FALLEN CLASS: DREG

These relentless thieves seem driven by desperation and rage. They are crafty, but they usually give up their cover with their clattering and hissing. Most seem outfitted with some kind of shock dagger and pistol, and as far as we can gather, they seem to only have two arms, while other Fallen have four.

THE FALLEN CLASS: VANDAL

The truths about the Fallen chain-of-command are still making themselves known, but Vandals appear to hold a higher ranking than the Dregs, and deadlier weapons, too. They often have long range capability, but, lucky for us, their weapons take time to charge.

Oh Captain, my Captain
THE FALLEN CLASS: CAPTAIN

Fallen run in packs, led by an individual Captain. There is no denying a Captain's might; they are the fiercest of the Fallen. There is this sense of tattered nobility to them. You can see it in the way they carry themselves. They think they're better than us. They believe that Earth belongs to them.

So where does Sarah Palmer come from? Find out reading Initation

Wired explains about a new Halo novelization of Sarah Palmer's back story called Initiation:

Brian Reed, the comic writer who adapted the Halo: Fall of Reach novel into comic form in 2010 before joining 343 Industries to write the Halo 4 game, will write the books, with Marco Castiello (Star Wars: Purge) on art. Initiation is the origin story of Sarah Palmer, a character introduced in Halo 4.

Although she appeared in the game as a commander of the Spartan forces, she was originally an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper; this series follows her career path.

“After Halo 4 and Spartan Ops, fans wanted to know more about the origins of the Spartan-IV program and Sarah Palmer in particular. So it’s great fun to be able to grant those wishes with a partner like Dark Horse,”

Mac Walters attempts to rewrite history on ME3 ending.

Mac Walters
Mac Walters is a dude who had lot to do with Mass Effect 3’s ending (he was the lead writer for the game) and appears to be trying to rewrite history.

During a recent awards show he was reported to have said about ME3’s ending that ‘he doesn’t think the majority of Mass Effect fans had an issue with Mass Effect 3′s ending and that it was just a very vocal minority’.

Which just seems a nonsense thing to say.

Every man and his dog was talking about the ending. It got people seriously wound up – so much that a Extended Cut was released by Bioware to placate everybody. If it was such a minority, this would never have happened. NO game developer would change their ending just because a couple of people didn’t like the game’s ending.

I wonder if this was a case of the 'silent majority' and the vocal minority being of similar views.

If so, I think Mac Walters might being a little too cute for his own good.

He’s currently working on Mass Effect 4: “Right now I’m actually just working on Mass Effect 4 (I wouldn't call it 4, I’d just call it the next Mass Effect).” Read into that what you will.

Jason Jones sensationally quits Bungie.

In a move that will wreak havoc at Bungie, founder Jason Jones has announced he has quit Bungie and will no longer be working on any projects, including the forth coming Destiny, a game he has been credited as being the creative force behind.

Jones said in a very terse press statement:

"My time with Bungie has come to an end. As I look back on my career, I've made some good games but at this stage of my life I've had a gutsful of being the chief Overlord at Bungie, and I need to find some new air to breathe. Farewell, and see you beyond the stars"

The internet has been rife with skuttlebut this morning with some Bungie forums suggesting Jones had cracked under the pressure of making Destiny, a game which possibly had the highest expectations for any game in recent history.

Some telling details have emerged on twitter about this issue. Marty O'Donnell, a long time Bungie stalwart tweeted "Sorry I stole your lunch Jason" while Frank O'Connor from rival studio, 343 Industries tweeted, "good luck with your re-invention of Tetris"

No other Bungie employees have made any public comment at this stage.

Destiny is expected to be released on 1 April 2014.

For clarity, this was an April Fool's joke. Joe Staten leaving was not.

The Gears of War: Judgement reviews are in. Is it good?

judgement gears

Well it depends who you talk to:

IGN says:

"The success of Judgment’s story comes down to the clever use of familiar storytelling techniques. It begins at the end, with Kilo Squad under arrest and facing a military tribunal for an unspecified crime. Discovering the how and why they arrived here is exciting because you’re involved in every moment leading up to the arrest. Cutscenes are mercifully few and far between, leaving us to dig into the details during playable flashback sequences. This is where Gears of War bottles lightning again.

Kilo’s testimonies do a terrific job of involving us in a story that unfolds simultaneously with gameplay. Characters observe and comment on their environment in the moment, while sporadic narration explains the motivation for their inevitable crime. The Gears of War fiction desperately needed clarity to compensate for its depth, and Judgment gives thoughtful consideration to its audience. The constant context kept me interested, aware, and engaged every step of the way. For the first time, a Gears of War story is as important as its third-person action."

Kotaku appears to find the declassified missions a bit of a chore:

"If we look at the narrative, Judgment tried to do something curious. The testimonies are broken down to smaller levels, most of which give the player the opportunity to tell the "declassified" version of what really went down. So, you can either choose to play the level vanilla, or you can choose to play it with special circumstances. Think stuff like, finish the level in X minutes, only use certain weapons, fight even more vicious enemies.

In their ideal form, these declassified missions present an opportunity for the player to add some spice to the basic Gears of War setup of shooting enemies with your lancer until they stop moving. It's a shame, then, that half the time it felt like some of the challenges addedannoyances instead of making things more compelling. I loved missions that would force me to get out of my comfort zone, like going through a level pistols-only, or adding an ambush where there previously was none.
And then there were levels that experimented with visual obfuscation. One level in particular I can only describe as running through fun house mirrors at a carnival while high. When levels like that came up, I'd pass on going declassified, even if it cost me "stars." See, you're graded on your performance, filling up a three-star bar depending on what you do. Declassified missions fill the bar up faster, though in these cases, it wasn't worth it."

Giant Bomb likes the new throw a grenade technique:

"Most of the enemies are guys that you've seen before, from bloodmounts to lambent versions of various creatures, and you'll fight them with the same basic arsenal. There are a few new weapons, like the Marksa, a semi-automatic rifle with a good scope that makes for a lighter, friendlier gun in medium-range sniping situations. The biggest gameplay change is a control change that makes weapon-switching more like Halo or Call of Duty. Instead of using the D-pad to switch between four different weapons, you can now hold two, and tapping the Y button swaps between them. Grenades are now dedicated to the left bumper, rather than being something you have to select before you can use. This change may come down to personal preference, but playing Gears this way makes me wish it was like this all along. Grenades become a lot more useful when you can just toss one out at will instead of having to stop shooting just to switch over to your grenades. It's a nice change that some people will probably hate."

Game Informer wussed out, sighting some problem with Sim City. Hello! There's an epic campaign to be played. Just review that!

GOWJ: Play Date with Kumail Nanjiani and Dwyane

This video is actually kinda amusing  - it's pure promo for Gears of War: Judgement but the ad libbing as Dywane, a rest home based retiree and Kumail play the new game is quite good.

Another Destiny tease found in ODST

asklon logo odst

Bungie teased that Destiny was coming as far back as the Halo 3 spin off, ODST. Another teaser was found in that game, note the triangle 'Asklon' logo was the same in the first Easter egg.

The reference to Infinity probably has Halo fans all up in arms regards the ship that features in Halo 4 but it's probably a reference to going beyond the stars (Bungie didn't make Halo 4 anyway...)
